Preview
The Stanford Cardinal last played at Hawaii in Week 1 of the 2023 season, and they won that game by a score of 37-24. Coming off a challenging first season in the ACC, the Cardinal only won three games last season.
This cost head coach Troy Taylor his job, and Frank Reich takes over heading into the 2025 season. Hawaii is coming off back to back five win seasons under Timmy Chang, who enters his fourth season as head coach of the Rainbow Warriors.
Stanford
- 3-8 Overall in 2024
- 2-6 in the ACC in 2024
- 4-7-1 ATS in 2024
The Cardinal are projected to finish dead last in the ACC, with Frank Reich taking over the program on an interim basis. They have a freshman Elijah Brown expected to take over at quarterback, and six offensive starters returning from last season.
With GM Andrew Luck still searching for a permanent head coach to take over the program, expectations will be low for Frank Reich coaching on an interim basis. Last year Stanford ranked dead last in the ACC in scoring defense allowing over 33 points per game.
They lost their top two receivers to the NFL Draft ( Elic Ayomanor) and via the transfer portal (Emmett Mosley V). Starting running back Micah Ford returns after running for 309 yards and no touchdowns on 76 carries last season.

Hawaii
- 5-7 Overall in 2024
- 3-4 in the MW in 2024
- 7-5 ATS in 2024
Winning ten games over the last two seasons despite all the things working against him, Timmy Chang has been a great hire for Hawaii. Entering his fourth season, this could be the year they take the next step and possibly become bowl eligible.
Micah Alejado will take over at QB after Brayden Schager threw for 2,591 yards, 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions last season. Alejado started the season finale versus New Mexico after Schager got hurt the week prior. He threw for 469 yards, 5 touchdowns and no picks on 37-of-57 passing in a 38-30 win.
Safety Peter Manuma and corner Virdel Edwards II missed most of last season with injuries, but they could be impact players on defense in 2025.

- The Over is 4-1 in the Rainbow Warriors last 5 overall.
- The Cardinal are 0-5 SU in their last 5 road games.
- The Cardinal are 2-8 SU in their last 10 overall.
PREDICTION: STAN 24 – HAW 33
These two teams are trending in opposite directions. Timmy Chang truly appears to be on the verge of turning things around, and he’s had three seasons to rebuild his roster. The Cardinal come in with an interim coach, and this team appears to be in an overall state of disarray. This looks like a clear case of the wrong team favored.

Stanford might be coming off several down years, but I don’t think they will lose to Hawaii. The former PAC12 and now ACC is still a completely different class than a lower end Mountain West team. Stanford wins big in Week 1, looks great and then gets humbled in ACC play.
