Preview
Bill Belichick is hoping to right the ship here in 2026 after a disappointing first season at Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels were just 4-8 last year, and they are projected to finish at the bottom of the ACC standings in 2025.
History tells us that playing your first game in Ireland isn’t always the recipe to bounce back from a tough season. The Nebraska Cornhuskers, Northwestern Wildcats and Florida State Seminoles have all had dumpster fire seasons after playing their first game in Ireland.
Of all the recent teams that have played in Ireland in Week Zero, Notre Dame might be an example of relative success. The Irish defeated Navy 42-3 in Dublin in 2023, and went on to win 10 games that season. You have to think either North Carolina or TCU would be happy with 10 wins in 2026.

North Carolina
- 4-8 Overall in 2025
- 2-6 in the ACC in 2025
- 5-6-1 ATS in 2025
The media reports focused more on Belichik’s relationship with Jordon Hudson than any actual reporting on the football team last year. There were times when people questioned if he would even make it to year two.
Hiring Bobby Petrino could go either way. There is potential to knock it out of the park and completely turn the offense around, but it could also be another step closer to an inevitable disaster.
The defense only returns three starters, but if we learned anything last year it’s that Bill can still coach up a defense. Billy Edwards Jr. will be the new quarterback, and if he can stay healthy it should be an upgrade after the Tar Heels ranked 16th (second to last) in the ACC in passing last year.
TCU
- 9-4 Overall in 2025
- 5-4 in the BIG12 in 2025
- 7-5-1 ATS in 2025
The Horned Frogs are coming off back to back nine win seasons, but after quarterback Josh Hoover transferred to Indiana there could be some growing pains in 2026. Sonny Dykes will turn to Jaden Craig, who has three years experience as a starter at Harvard.
It remains to be seen if his skill set will hold up in a power conference, but he did throw for 2,869 yards, 25 touchdowns and 7 interceptions with the Crimson last year. Gordon Sammis will step in as the new offensive coordinator to replace Kendal Briles, who is now in the SEC with South Carolina.
Leading rusher Jeremy Payne returns after averaging 5.7 yards per carry in 2025. There is also plenty of returning talent in the receiving corps, and the offense should have a chance to pick up where it left off.
Relevant Trends
- The favorite is 3-7 ATS in the last 10 Ireland games.
- The favorite is 7-3 SU in the last 10 Ireland games.
- The Horned Frogs are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 overall.
- The Under is 6-1 in the Tar Heels last 7 overall.
- The Under is 4-1 in the last 5 Ireland games.
PREDICTION: UNC 17 – TCU 34
The Horned Frogs are just more established with Sonny Dykes at the helm since 2022 than the Tar Heels in their second season under Bill Belichick. North Carolina should be better this season, but expecting them to travel to Ireland and hang with an above average BIG12 program might be asking too much. The Horned Frogs won 48-14 at Chapel Hill in Week 1 last season, and while this game may be a bit closer TCU should still win comfortably.

Yes Pablo Torre confirmed on his show that Jordon Hudson is INDEED a sex worker and Bill was a paying customer.
Is this a gossip rag? Are you gonna talk about Jordon Hudson working as an escort?
