Preview
The Cavaliers went all the way to the ACC Championship Game losing in overtime to Duke last year. They played NC State in Week 1, losing 35-31 despite leading 24-14 at halftime. That was the first of a home and home series of non-conference games.
This year’s game was originally scheduled to be played in Brazil, but event organizer Athlete Advantage decided the event could not be held there, forcing the game to be relocated to Charlottesville.
The Cavaliers are clear betting favorites in this revenge spot, but perhaps some recency bias is at play? Coming off an 11 win season, can we really assume that this team will pick up where it left off?

NC State
- 8-5 Overall in 2025
- 4-4 in the ACC in 2025
- 7-6 ATS in 2025
The Wolfpack will have experience at the quarterback position with CJ Bailey returning for his third season at NC State. He threw for 3,105 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2025.
They also bring back running back Jayden Scott, who ran for 595 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per carry last season. They will undergo a complete overhaul of the receiving corps, bringing in guys who were productive for smaller schools or guys who didn’t live up to expectations at other power conference programs.
The defense only returns two starters from last year, but given that they ranked 14th in the ACC in total defense in 2025, new faces might be a welcome sight.
Virginia
- 11-3 Overall in 2025
- 7-1 in the ACC in 2025
- 9-5 ATS in 2025
The Cavaliers landed a big name quarterback in the transfer portal as Beau Pribula comes over from Missouri to replace Chandler Morriss. While he’s a dynamic runner, Pribula threw just three touchdown passes and seven interceptions in six SEC games last year.
With three starters returning on the offensive line and a mobile quarterback Virginia should have success running the football from day 1 in 2026.
This team ranked second in scoring defense and third in total defense in 2025, and they do bring back a handful of starters. After last year’s success we can expect defensive coordinator John Rudzinski to field another strong unit in 2026.

PREDICTION: NCST 24 – UVA 27
The Cavaliers are well deserved favorites in this matchup, but public money has bet this line up to almost a touchdown. With a quarterback that isn’t a strong passer, it might not be wise to bet on a blowout here. The Wolfpack should be in good shape with CJ Bailey in his third season in this offense, and he may be able to do enough to keep this game close. We are going to recommend taking the points with the underdog.
