JVU vs NDSU Betting Preview
The long awaited promotion of the North Dakota State Bison to FBS is well overdue. They join the watered down Mountain West Conference and become immediate contenders. They are coming off a perfect 12-0 season, before being upset in their first playoff game against Illinois State.
Don’t be fooled by the fact that the Bison are from the lower ranks, they will be a sizable home favorite here in their season opener. The Bison had won five straight versus FBS teams before dropping their last two in single score losses at Colorado and at Arizona.
Jacksonville State won nine games last year, but their strength of schedule leaves a lot to be desired.

Jacksonville State Betting Preview
- Head coach: Charles Kelly
- Offensive coordinator: Taylor Houseright
- Defensive coordinator: Brian Williams
- 9-5 Overall in 2025
- 7-1 in the CUSA in 2025
- 7-7 ATS in 2025
If you thought this team would collapse after the departure of Rich Rodriguez, think again. In the first season under head coach Charles Kelly they went 7-1 in conference play and lost 19-15 in the Conference Championship game versus Kennesaw State.
Quarterback Caden Creel is back in 2026 after leading the team in rushing with 1,075 yards last year. After a successful debut with the Gamecocks in 2025, nobody is in a hurry to bet against Charles Kelly’s team in 2026.
Only Liberty and Western Kentucky have shorter odds to win the Conference Championship. Their regular season win total is set at 7.5.
North Dakota State Betting Preview
- Head coach: Tim Polasek
- Offensive coordinator: Dan Larson
- Defensive coordinator: Grant Olson
- 12-1 Overall in 2025
- -0 in the MVFC in 2025
The Bison are considered one of the favorites to win the Mountain West, priced at just +$300 only slightly longer odds than New Mexico and UNLV.
They bring back eight starters from last season, three of those on the offensive line. While they have continuity at quarterback, and in the backfield, the receiving corps will be a question mark.
North Dakota State won 10 FCS Championships between 2011-2024, and that is a testament to the culture that has been built at this program. They have often been referred to as the “Alabama of the FCS”.
JVU vs NDSU Betting Trends
- The Gamecocks are 7-3 in their last 10 overall.
- The Bison are 12-1 in their last 13 overall.
- The Over is 6-4 in the Gamecocks last 10 overall.
- The Bison are 9-5 all time versus FBS teams.
The Gamecocks are 12-8 in their last 20 non-conf games.
BETTING PREDICTION: JVU 13 – NDSU 34
The Gamecocks have been highly successful in Conference USA, but their wins have mostly come against teams ranked well outside the Top 50. The Bison may hail from the lower ranks, but every chance they have had to play top level FBS teams, they have either won outright or been highly competitive. This is a prove it game for the home team, and they should let the world know they belong in Division 1 football.
