COL vs GTECH Betting Preview

The Colorado Buffaloes were 1-11 in the 2022 season, prior to hiring Deion Sanders. In Coach Prime’s first year in Boulder the Buffaloes won just four games, but opened the season with a shocking upset on the road at TCU. beating the Horned Frogs 45-42.

In year two the Buffaloes won nine games, and Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy. After regressing to 3-9 in 2025, the Buffaloes are projected to finish near the bottom of the BIG12 this season.

Brent Key got the Yellowjackets to nine wins last season, but the departure of quarterback Haynes King and two new coordinators leave plenty of question marks for the upcoming season.

Colorado

  • Head coach: Deion Sanders
  • Offensive coordinator: Brennan Marion
  • Defensive coordinator: Chris Marve.
  • 3-9 Overall in 2025
  • 1-8 in the BIG12 in 2025
  • 4-7-1 ATS in 2025

The Buffaloes will have a new offensive coordinator, and Brennan Marion will be tasked to get the most out of sophomore quarterback Julian Lewis. He will also have a pair of star wide receiver transfers from San Jose State and Texas.

The offensive line has been a weak spot since Deion arrived in Boulder, and that remains an area of concern heading into 2026. Colorado ranked dead last in the BIG12 in total defense last year, allowing an average of 426 yards per game.

The fact that they aren’t bringing back any of last year’s defensive starters might be a positive for new defensive coordinator Chris Marve.

Georgia Tech

  • Head coach: Brent Key
  • Offensive coordinator: George Godsey
  • Defensive coordinator: Jason Semore
  • 9-4 Overall in 2025
  • 6-2 in the ACC in 2025
  • 7-6 ATS in 2025

Nobody can replace Haynes King, but the offense might be just fine with Alberto Mendoza transferring in from Indiana. He threw for 286 yards, five touchdowns and one interception in mop up duty as the backup for his big brother on the National Championship team last year.

He will be handing off to two of the top backs in the ACC in Justice Haynes and Malachi Hosley. Haynes is not related to Jamal Haynes who had been the RB1 for the Yellowjackets the past three seasons. Justice Haynes has played three solid seasons with Alabama and Michigan, averaging 6.5 yards per carry during that span.

Brent Key will have new coordinators on offense and defense, and he will have to replace three starters on the offensive line. Based on his resume so far, it would be a fool’s errand to doubt him.

Relevant Trends

  • G-Tech is 1-4 ATS in their last 4 overall.
  • The Over is 7-3 in G-Tech’s last 10 overall.
  • Colorado is 2-8 in their last 10 overall.
  • Colorado is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 overall.
  • G-Tech is 10-2 in their last 12 as a home favorite.

PREDICTION: COL 17 – GT 31

While Deion Sanders has done a great job in three seasons at Colorado, he’s dealt with health problems and has had to overcome a lot of adversity losing so much talent after the 2024 season. He may very well get this program back on track, but on the road in Week 1 against the Georgia Tech team that will try to run the ball down your throat, his team should be overmatched.
