Preview
Switzerland returns to the European Championships after a strong showing in 2020 making it to the Quarter-finals, losing to Spain on penalties.
Hungary did not advance to the knockout stage of the 2020 tournament, finishing last in Group F. The Hungarians were quite unfortunate to be matched up with France, Portugal and Germany in “The Group of Death“. They did manage to play to a draw in matches versus France and Germany.
Germany is heavily favored to win Group A, and oddsmakers are expecting Switzerland (+550) and Hungary (+700) to battle for second place in the group.
Hungary
- 0-1-2 Last EURO in 2020
- 5-0-3 EURO Qualifiers
- 3-0-2 Last 5 matches
Hungary has been impressive in their qualifying matches, winning five and drawing three in eight contests. They scored 16 goals and conceded just seven in those matches.
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai scored four goals in qualifying matches, tying him for the team lead. The 23 year old has scored three goals while playing in 25 matches in the Premier League this season.
29 year old Barnabas Varga shared the team lead in scoring, and he lead his team (Nemzeti Bajnokság) in scoring in 2022-2023 in the Hungarian league with 26 goals.
Switzerland
- 2-2-1 Last EURO in 2020
- 4-1-5 EURO Qualifiers
- 1-1-3 Last 5 matches
Switzerland scored a whopping 22 goals in their 10 qualifying matches, double what they conceded during those contests. Despite such an impressive goal differential, they settled for a draw in exactly half of their games.
23 year old forward Noah Okafor has played in 20 games for AC Milan in Serie A this season, only getting the start in five of those matches. He’s scored six goals and added an assist. He is a long-shot to win the Golden Boot at +15000.
Relevant Trends
- Switzerland has played to a draw in 3 of their last 5 matches.
- Hungary is undefeated in their last five matches.
- Switzerland played to a draw in three of five matches in Euro 2020.
- Both teams have scored in three of the last four head to head meetings.
- Switzerland played to a draw in five of 10 qualifying matches.
PREDICTION: HUNGARY 1, SWITZERLAND 1
We saw Hungary play to a draw in two of three matches at the last Euro, while Switzerland played to a draw in three of five matches. With the draw priced at +250, the oddsmakers are telling us that it is a probable result. We should see both teams exercise caution in the first match of the tournament, and a draw isn’t a bad result for either of these teams. If you look at Switzerland’s last five matches, all five of them finished with a score of 1-1 or 1-0. The under might also be worth a look in this match.

The Longhorns should beat the pants off this Rams team, and if they really wanted to they could cover a 36-point spread. We expect them to dominate the first half, but when you look up at the schedule and see a road game at Michigan the following Saturday
