Yes, they were demolished by Utah at home in their season-opener, 43-10, and yes, they go up against stiffer competition on a regular basis. But, their new transfer quarterback, Nico Iamaleava struggled last week, completing just 11 of 22 passes, for one touchdown and one interception in the loss against the Utes. Their ground game didn’t fare too much better, folks. Rebels quarterback, Anthony Colandrea, I feel has what it takes to move the chains in this matchup, and score points on offense, while their defense cuts through the revamped offensive line of the Bruins. He is 11-7 with a 3.24 ERA and 149 strikeouts this season. In his career, against the Astros, he is 0-1 with a 0.73 ERA and 11 strikeouts. Houston is 77-64 this season but have lost four of their last six. Texas has lost two in a row and are 72-69 this season. OVER the total runs line. Houston has not played well as of late and must face one of the better Rangers starters. I like kelly to carry the Rangers to a win in this one.

Offseason acquisitions of Deebo Samuel and Laramie Tunsil, combined with a long-term extension for Terry McLaurin, bolster their attack. However, their defense was a weak point last season and appears largely unchanged, raising concerns about their ability to contain opponents. The Giants struggled in 2024, finishing with just three wins. However, they’ve made significant upgrades, most notably at quarterback with Russell Wilson, who brings experience and leadership. Wilson has reliable weapons and a robust running game led by Tyrone Tracy. The Giants defense is their standout unit, boasting one of the league’s top secondaries and a formidable pass rush, which could pose problems for Washington’s offense. With limited Week 1 data, historical trends provide insight. Since 2016, Week 1 underdogs have a strong 78-62 ATS (against the spread) record. Road underdogs perform even better at 52-36 ATS, while underdogs who missed the postseason the prior year are 59-45 ATS. This is a massive series for the Mariners, who are trying to gain on the Astros and stay in the wildcard position. Despite the losing record, Gilbert has been very solid for the most part. He's coming off consecutive Quality Starts, allowing three or less runs in those games while going the standard six innings. He's very trustable going into this matchup vs. a struggling Braves team.

Talking about Atlanta, it very much missed Chris Sale when he was injured earlier this season. He's definitely been the best arm for the Braves when healthy and his ERA is nothing short of brilliant. Sale's given up three runs over his past five appearances, going more than six innings in each of them, while going eight and two thirds of an inning in his last home start. Hammer the "under" on Friday.

Burns' Prediction: 2-1 Mariners.

This QB will not beat himself as he has only thrown 5 interceptions in his College career. James Madison also now has a solid defensive co ordinator ( Colin Hitschler,) who came over from Alabama . I expect he will have this group harassing Cardinal signal caller Miller Moss all night long.

I'm strongly backing the LA Chargers with the points against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday. This line offers tremendous value for a Chargers team I expect to take a significant step forward this season, while I see the Chiefs taking a step back. Kansas City has dominated this rivalry, winning seven straight games, so you know the Chargers have had this matchup circled all offseason. I'm shocked we're getting points here, as I believe the Chargers can win outright. For added safety, though, we'll gladly take the points with LA.
