Meet Mattress Mack

The owner and CEO of Gallery Furniture in Houston Texas is 70 year old Jim McIngvale, also known as Mattress Mack. He got into the furniture business in the early 80s, and his company now earns over $200 million in revenue annually. His net worth is estimated at over $300 million, and he’s certainly proved that he’s willing to throw his money around. According to Caesars Sportsbook, “Mattress Mack” has placed the single-largest mobile sports wager of all-time with a $4.5 million bet on the Cincinnati Bengals.

Before you get too excited about following Mack’s lead and betting the Bengals, there are a few things you should know. While he has a history of making some big bets, that doesn’t mean he has a history of cashing them. In fact the majority of his bets have been designed more to promote his furniture business than anything else. Back in 2019 Gallery Furniture ran a promotion offering customers a full refund on purchases over $3000 if the Houston Astros won the World Series. Mack placed a total of $13 million in bets on the Astros as hedge on the liability of the promotion. The Astros lost the series in Game 7 versus the Washington Nationals.

In January of 2020 he placed a big bet on the Houston Texans in their Divisional Playoff game versus the Kansas City Chiefs, and despite the Texans taking a 24-0 lead they ended up losing 51-31. He followed that up with a $1 million bet on the Titans in the AFC Championship Game, and then he bet another $1 million on San Francisco in Super Bowl LIV. He ran the same promotion offering refunds to customers if San Francisco won the Super Bowl.

It should surprise nobody that along with Mattress Mack’s record setting Super Bowl bet, comes another promotion at his furniture store. Any customer who spends $3,000 or more on recliners or mattresses at Gallery Furniture ahead of the Super Bowl gets a full refund if the Bengals win. Keep in mind that if the Bengals lose, Mr. McIngvale makes plenty of money selling furniture, but the rest of the people holding Bengals tickets go home empty handed.

This guy is an ass clown, not even a real gambler. Look he bet on both sides of the NCAA Final, he loses more than he wins. Please don’t give him any more free advertising. People like him are scum of the earth.
