This is a 10* NON-CONF TOW on the OVER Celtics/Nuggets.
We have a really high total here, but not nearly high enough in my opinion!
I'm definitely expecting a wide-open "shootout," rather than a grind-it-out defensive battle.
Boston is 26-10, but it saw its three-game win streak snapped in a poor 105-92 loss at OKC last time out. Note though that the Celtics have seen the total go OVER in eight of their last 12 off a SU/ATS road loss in which it was held to 95 or fewer points in.
Denver is 20-14 and it's won four of its last five. It's off the 122-111 OT win over San Antonio, and the total still went UNDER the number.
Look for the Nuggets to build off their last win and to bring their "A" game at home vs. the defending champs.
With each side pushing the pace like I'm expecting, everything does indeed point to this total flying OVER the number sooner, rather than later.
Good luck, NP
This is a 10* UNDERDOG OF THE MONTH on the Bruins.
As primarily a "situational" capper, this one falls right into my wheelhouse so to speak.
The Bruins are absolutely desperate after four straight losses. All against decent teams, most recently a 5-4 OT setback here to the Isles.
Boston also plays with revenge after a 3-2 OT loss at Edmonton in mid-December. Note that the Bruins are 7-3 in their last ten in trying to avenge a road loss as a dog vs. an opponent.
Edmonton has won three straight (Utah, Anaheim, Seattle,) but I think a letdown is imminent here with games at Pittsburgh and Chicago still go on this current trip.
Look for the hungrier, revenge-minded home side to risk life and limb to pull off a win on Tuesday night.
The play is BOSTON.
Good luck, NP
This is a 10* UNDERDOG OF THE MONTH on Utah.
I'm all about betting great "situations," an dthis one really sets up well for the underdog to comfortably sneak in through the back door down the stretch with all of the points that it's been afforded.
Iowa State is 12-1 SU, including 2-0 in Big 12 play. It enters having won nine straight.
But with a game at 10-3 Texas Tech this weekend, not only does this set up as a classic letdown spot, but also a "look ahead" position. When you add those two factors together, you get "TRAP" game.
Utah is 8-5. It's off the 93-65 loss at Texas Tech, after fallign 81-56 at Baylor.
But previous to that it fell 95-88 to Iowa. The Utes have been competitive most nights and they catch the No. 3 team in the country at a great time.
I'm not calling for an outright upset or anything, but everything points to a much closer final outcome than what the oddsmakers are trying to lead us to believe in my opinion.
Grab the points, the play is UTAH.
Good luck, NP
