We really like the under in this matchup. The Yankees swept their way past Boston in the Wild Card round and now turn to Gerrit Cole for the ALDS opener. Cole went 10-9 with a 3.61 ERA this season, and he's at his best when he can work deep and keep the ball in the yard. New York has plenty of postseason experience up and down the roster, and they've got arms like Max Fried waiting behind him. This is a veteran group that knows how to grind out low-scoring October games.

The Rays earned the AL's best record and the extra rest that comes with a bye. Drew Rasmussen takes the ball after a 16-5 season with a 2.67 ERA. Tampa Bay allowed the fewest runs per game in the American League, and they have a deep, well-rested group of arms to turn to late. Two proven right-handers and two deep bullpens; runs figure to be hard to come by at Tropicana Field

We really like the under in this matchup. The White Sox are the No. 6 seed and arrive fresh off knocking out the Astros. Rookie lefty Hagen Smith gets the ball in an opener-style role after working out of the bullpen all year. Smith is a short-leash arm, so Chicago will lean on a patchwork of relievers behind him. The Guardians are the No. 2 seed and rested, and they hand the ball to another rookie lefty in Parker Messick. Messick finished 12-9 with a 2.56 ERA, and he piled up 193 strikeouts in 186.1 innings while holding hitters to a .217 average. He's been especially good against this opponent, and Cleveland's bullpen will be in a strong spot to protect any lead they're expected to build.

We really like road favorite in this matchup. Syracuse (1-2) has a talented group of receivers and quarterback Steve Angeli, who has thrown for 263 and 3 TD in a game this year. They're facing a UConn secondary that is young and inexperienced and just gave up 300+ passing yards to Miami (OH). The Orange defense is just as good in the other direction, allowing only 134.7 passing yards per game (5th nationally) and 258.7 total yards per game (16th).

UConn (2-2) has some weapons, but quarterback Kalieb Osborne doesn't have a go-to receiver to keep drives alive. Syracuse has the better receivers, the better defense, and a clear matchup edge in the secondary. They should control this game and win by more than the number.

We really like over in this matchup. UCF (3-1) is averaging 36.3 points per game, so they can score on anyone. Their defense has been strong, holding opponents to 13 points or fewer in three of four games. But as an double-digit road underdog, they'll likely have to open it up and push the pace if Houston gets out in front.

Houston (3-1) is ranked No. 20 and has an explosive offense led by veteran quarterback Conner Weigman. Their defense still gives up chunk plays, and all four of their games have gone over the total this year. They put up 441 yards in their last outing, so points should come early and often at home. A Houston team that scores in bunches and an underdog that has to keep up point toward a higher-scoring game than this number suggests.

We really like under in this matchup. Auburn (3-1) allows just 20.8 points per game and 3.1 yards per rush. They want to lean on the run and Byrum Brown's legs, which means long, clock-eating drives against a stout Tennessee front. Tennessee (3-1) is coming off an offensive meltdown against Texas in which they allowed ten sacks in a 20-17 loss. Their offense is still searching for rhythm, and their defense is good enough to keep Auburn in check.

Two teams that want to run the ball, with one offense still out of sync, should make points hard to come by. The total is too high.

We really like under in this matchup. Navy (1-2) is a triple-option team that wants to shorten the game. They average 334 rushing yards per game (2nd in FBS) but only 91 passing yards (135th). That means long, grinding drives that burn clock and limit possessions. Their defense is stingy against the run, allowing just 65.7 yards per game (8th). The soft spot is the secondary, but Air Force doesn't have the passing game to exploit it.

Air Force (2-1) runs the same kind of offense, and like Navy, they will lean on the ground, keep the clock moving and rarely put the ball in the air. Their defense is solid against the pass, allowing 168.3 yards per game (27th). That makes Navy's one-dimensional offense even harder to open up.
