Duke seeks revenge against ACC rival Miami
The Blue Devils are off to an impressive start this season, and their 4-0 record includes three wins over Power Five teams. They are coming off a double digit road win at North Carolina, outscoring the Tar Heels 14-0 in the fourth quarter of a 27-17 win.
While Duke lost by a score of 40-21 at Miami in their final game of last season, it’s a 30-27 home loss the previous season that will be fresh on everybody’s minds here on Friday night. The Blue Devils scored what looked like the game winning TD with just six seconds on the clock, going ahead 27-24. On the ensuing kickoff, the Hurricanes scored a 91 yard return for a controversial game winning score.
The problem was that several fouls should have negated the TD, and replay showed the ball carrier to be down by contact well before the endzone. The controversial outcome resulted in a suspension for the ACC officiating crew involved.
The Hurricanes have dominated this series over the years, winning nine of the last 10 meetings. Since 2010 they have played three games at Durham, winning two of three. Both wins came in close games decided by seven points or less.
Miami is roughly a 7-point favorite, and the total is currently 55.5 across the board.
